A fire that had burned at a major landfill in Denpasar, the provincial capital of Indonesia’s tourist island Bali, since Monday, September 24, continued to send pungent gas into the sky.
The fire was reportedly caused by methane gas at the Suwung landfill.
Residents complained about the awful smell from the gas, which could cause breathing problems for people in the area.
The smoke also blanketed Ngurah Rai Bypass Road, the island’s major thoroughfare, prompting traffic jam, especially between Kuta and Sanur. It could also hamper efforts to extinguish the fire, the Badung Regency Fire Department said. Credit: Badung Regency Fire Department via Storyful
