The first bands of Hurricane Lane touched Hawaii’s Big Island on Tuesday, August 21, as the Central Pacific Hurricane Center issued hurricane watches for Maui and Hawaii counties.

Lane was a Category 4 storm at 8am Tuesday, with top winds at 155 mph. The storm is expected to turn toward Hawaii on Wednesday.
