Residents of houses below Genoa’s Morandi bridge, who have been made temporarily homeless since a section of the bridge collapsed, were allowed return home briefly on August 16 to collect essential belongings.

Video by Italy’s national fire service shows just how much a part of life the Morandi bridge was for residents, with the supports of the viaduct in some cases leaning against the tops of apartment buildings.
