Eng vs Ind, 1st Test, India tour of England, 2018
Alastair Cook was dismissed for a duck in the second innings as England ended the day with 9 runs on the board for the loss of one wicket, leading India by 22 runs. Day 2 of the first Test certainly belonged to Indian skipper Virat Kohli (149), who played an absolute gem of an innings before India were bundled out for 274 runs in the final session of the second day. The Indian skipper led his team from the front, notching up his 22nd century in Test cricket at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham. It was also Virat Kohli's first century on English soil. On the day when rest of the Indian batsmen failed miserably, Kohli fought like a true warrior, scoring majority of India's runs. The Indian tail-enders provided perfect support as Kohli and Umesh Yadav stitched a 57-run partnership for the final wicket. Sam Curran was the most impressive bowler for England picking up four wickets.

Earlier, Kohli fought a lone battle as wickets tumbled in the post-lunch session with England restricting India to 160 for six at tea. Highlight in the session was Kohli and Hardik Pandya's (22) 48-run partnership for the seventh wicket but the latter fell just before tea. Resuming the session at 76 for three, India lost vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik in quick succession against the brilliant bowling by Ben Stokes and James Anderson. After Sam Curran wreaked havoc (three wickets in eight balls) in the morning session, it was Ben Stokes who bowled superbly in the second session of the day. The Durham all-rounder bowled with accurate line and length and got lot of assistance from the pitch. Just before tea Sam Curran picked up Hardik Pandya with a beautiful in-swinging yorker.
