In Uttar Pradesh, a man allegedly gave his wife triple talaq over a burnt chapati. In her complaint to the UP police, the 24-year-old the victim alleged that her husband inflicted cigarette burns on her three days before divorcing her by way of triple talaq. The police have registered a case of domestic violence while the Supreme Court had struck down Triple Talaq practice calling the practice unconstitutional and in violation of article 14 of the constitution. The bill is likely to be taken up in the Rajya Sabha with reports of congress planning to stall the bill and AIMPLB planning to set up Sharia courts.
