As clocks struck midnight on June 24, women in Saudi Arabia were finally free to get behind the wheels of their cars and legally drive for the first time.
Saudi King Salman previously issued a royal decree on September 26, 2017, lifting the driving ban on women. Several months were spent preparing the country’s roadways and infrastructure to accommodate a larger number of drivers on the road.
