Mount Agung, on the Indonesian tourist island of Bali, erupted on Wednesday, June 13, emitting a plume of volcanic ash that reached 6,500 feet (2,000 metres) above the volcano.
Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of the National Disaster Management Authority, confirmed the eruption. “Mount Agung, Bali, erupted on June 13, 2018, at 11:05 am,” he tweeted, adding that the column of volcanic ash reached 2,000 metres.
He assured the public that Bali remained safe.
