This drone footage captures the brown water from Lake Okeechobee as it creeps into the beautiful waters surrounding Sanibel Island on June 5.

Due to historic rainfall in Southwest Florida, the water level of Lake Okeechobee has risen more than a foot since May.

It’s been reported, the US Army Corps of Engineers began releasing billions of gallons of lake water into the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie rivers which end in a bay behind Sanibel Island, allowing brown water to flow straight into the otherwise clear Sanibel water.
