The USGS’s Hawaii Volcano Observatory reported eruptions of ash of “increased intensity” from the Halemaumau crater at the Kilauea volcano’s summit on May 15, issuing a code red warning.
The ash cloud reached heights of up to 12,000 feet, the service said.
