Dust devils have been spotted around the firefight against the McDannald Fire in western Texas.
Kyle Fire Department posted video on Wednesday, May 9, showing a dust devil in the Fort Davis Mountains, and the Texas A&M Forest Service posted video showing a dust devil from Monday.
The wildfire near Fort Davis stood at 19,043 acres on Wednesday and was 69 percent contained.
Texas A&M Forest Service officials said dust devils near a wildfire are not a welcome site. “Dust devils are able to spread firebrands from within containment lines to areas outside of the line, starting new fires.”
