An estimated 12,000 people marched through Guadalajara, Mexico, in protest over the brutal murders of three film students whose bodies were reportedly dissolved in acid by cartel members.

The murdered students – Javier Salomón Aceves Gastélum, Jesús Daniel Díaz García and Marco Francisco García Ávalos – were reportedly captured by members of the Jalisco Nueva Generacion Cartel, who tortured and killed them after mistaking them for members of a rival group. Mexican rapper and YouTube star Christian Omar Palma Gutierrez, known as ‘QBA’, has since admitted dissolving their bodies in acid.

Video, captured by protester Denisse Stephania Aguilera Flores, shows demonstrators chanting as they marched towards the Glorieta de Los Ninos Heroes monument.

The murders have shocked the country and reignited concerns over the thousands of young people who have gone missing in Mexico in recent years, some of which are suspected of being gang-related abductions. Credit: Denisse Stephania Aguilera Flores via Storyful
