United States Coast Guard crews with the Tri-State unit were busy on Thursday, January 18, breaking ice on the Connecticut River.

The Coast Guard had spent several days trying to clear the river from the ice jams, according to NBC Connecticut. In Haddam, Connecticut, the sheets of ice measured four to 10 feet in diameter, and posed major risk of flooding. Credit: U.S. Coast Guard Tri-State via Storyful
