Coast Guard Crew Offloads One Ton of Seized Cocaine

Members of the Cost Guard Cutter Pelican offloaded approximately one ton of cocaine worth more than $23 million in St. Petersburg, Florida, on November 20.

The cocaine was seized during patrols in the Caribbean Sea south of the Dominican Republic, according to a Coast Guard press release. Three suspected smugglers were also apprehended and transferred to St. Petersburg.

The cocaine seizure was part of Operation Martillo, a joint effort between the naval forces of the United States and Canada to eliminate organized crime in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Credit: US Coast Guard via Storyful
