Sydney Trains chief executive Howard Collins issued an apology to commuters on January 12 after disruption to the network continued on Monday.

On Monday, almost 40 services were cancelled due to staff shortages with further disruption expected if a widespread industrial action goes forward, The Australian reported.

After days of chaos along the Sydney train network last week, with many trains being delayed indefinitely and anger rising after the NSW Government refused to provide refunds, Collins appeared in a video apologising to commuters.

“We’re doing all we can to ensure that we can to ensure that we improve the services that we go through,” Collins said. He attributed the disruptions to a combination of factors including a “spike in genuine sickness” among drivers and weather, and acknowledged the new timetable they introduced in December was sensitive to disruption.
