A fire that broke out in a nature reserve in Melbourne’s southeast on December 27 prompted the evacuation of 40 homes as firefighters struggled to contain the blaze.
Melbourne Fire Brigade said they battled a a grass fire in Cheltenham that broke out near a golf course and a local cemetery; around 5:35 pm, they announced on Twitter the fire was under control.

ABC reported that over a dozen fire trucks, four helicopters and 90 firefighters were on scene; the flames hard consumed about five to six hectares of land including some grassland in the cemetery. The cause of the fire is not yet known. Credit: Twitter/annaspargoryan via Storyful
