California's Detwiler Wildfire Burns 15,500 Acres

A wildfire in Mariposa County, California, had already destroyed one building, damaged one other and threatened hundreds more on Tuesday, July 18. The Detwiler Fire consumed 15,500 acres and was 5 percent contained.

The fire, which started on Sunday, triggered evacuation orders for areas around the fire and closed down several roads, including Highway 49 at Highway 132. Evacuation advisories also were in effect.

About 900 customers also were without power near the fire, according to a news report. The fire also threatened the power lines that feed Yosemite National Park. Credit: Toney Gorham via Storyful
