Police in South Australia said an area of the Mulga Valley, near Terowie, had been excavated on November 1 as part of an ongoing investigation into the suspected murder of a man more than 12 years ago.

Officers from the Major Crime Investigation Branch also visited two properties in Terowie, about 220km north of Adelaide, as part of the same investigation.

Twenty-five-year-old Martin Meffert was last seen alive in February 2005, travelling on a bus en route to Terowie. In October 2013, police said Meffert’s skeletal remains had been found in a house on Packer Street, Terowie.

Speaking to local media on November 1, Superintendent Des Bray confirmed the recent well excavation, as seen above, was carried out due to a police inquiry into the possible disposal of evidence relating to Meffert’s death in the immediate area. Credit: SA Police News via Storyful
