A provincial state of emergency was declared on July 8 due to an out-of-control wildfire that has consumed huge swathes of dry grassland in British Columbia, Canada.

CBC reported 138 fires were started, many ignited by lightning, according to the British Columbia Wildfire Service, on Friday. Evacuations were issued for an airport, an entire town and hundreds of homes throughout the region.

Two airport hangars and over 30 homes in Boston flats were reportedly consumed by the flames, which at time of writing were burning over 4,000 hectares of land.
