Uber’s Senior Vice President Emil Michael Michael has been replaced by Nestle Executive Vice President Wan Ling Martello, and Chief Executive Travis Kalanick may take a leave of absence. The changes stem from a report by former U.S. attorney general Eric Holder Jr. on Uber’s workplace culture. Uber has experienced its fair share of missteps this year, which lead to the online campaign “#deleteUber” on social media. Lyft has proven to be Uber's biggest competitor, already accounting for 25 percent of all trips in the U.S. ride-hailing market and experiencing a ridership surge up to 70.4 million rides in its first quarter. Amidst the court battle with Waymo over stolen self-driving technology plans, Kalanick says the future of Uber will heavily rely on said technology. "What would happen if we weren't a part of that future? If we weren't part of the autonomy thing? Then the future passes us by, basically, in a very expeditious and efficient way."
