PM Modi announces, women can retain maiden names in passport. PM Modi says, name change in passport after marriage is optional for women. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that if desired then women in country won't need to change their names in passports after their marriage anymore. While speaking at the commemoration of the golden jubilee of Indian merchant chamber's ladies wing, PM Modi said it would be their discretion to use father or mother's name in passport.
