On Thursday, White House press secretary Sean Spicer announced that President Trump has suggested imposing a 20% tax on goods imported from Mexico as a means of paying for the border wall.

On Thursday, White House press secretary Sean Spicer told reporters that President Trump has suggested imposing a 20% tax on goods imported from Mexico as a means of paying for the border wall, reports the New York Times.
Philip Rucker, White House Bureau Chief at the Washington Post, posted a tweet, noting, "Trump has decided to pay for border wall with a 20 percent tax on imports from Mexico, Spicer told press pool."
The announcement was made just hours after Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto called off his trip to the U.S.
News of Nieto’s change in plans followed President Trump’s tweet, “If Mexico is unwilling to pay for the badly needed wall, then it would be better to cancel the upcoming meeting.”
Over the past months, Nieto has been quite clear that his nation will not be financing the border wall in any way, notes CNN.
