An injured wombat was enjoying a little luxury at Sleepy Burrows Wombat Sanctuary on Sunday, November 6, as keepers at the park nursed her back to health.

The female wombat was discovered by the sanctuary’s specially trained Maremma, Stella, an Italian stock dog who is bred to protect other wildlife.

“Stella helps us find injured or sick wombats in the bush,” the sanctuary’s Donna Stepan said.

“So once again our gorgeous dog has helped us help wombats – she is an asset to the sanctuary and to wombats.”

In footage uploaded by the sanctuary, the female wombat, who is on antibiotics to treat her injuries, remains in her burrow to protect herself as she is brought green grass to eat. Credit: Facebook/Sleepy Burrows Wombat Sanctuary
