Shocking footage has emerged from China of a doctor removing 16 pencil ends from a 13-year-old girl's arm after she kept pricking herself to keep herself awake during an epic homework session.

The video, filmed in Guiyang, Guizhou Province on Monday, shows the girl's holey, swollen arm as well as x-rays highlighting the tiny pieces of graphite in her skin.

The girl was reportedly up until 2am doing homework and kept falling asleep so she pricked her arm with the pencil to keep herself awake.

Eventually, she had to go to hospital and after an hour's surgery, doctors were able to remove 16 pieces of pencil end.
