Assam, Sep 12 (ANI): To curb illegal migration and stop cross-border infiltration in the country’s northeast, the sealing of international border is the top most priority of the Assam government. Chief Minister Sarbananda
Sonowal recently inspected the India-Bangladesh border in the Mankachar sector of Dhubri district, a day after he sought constructing a fullproof border fence under the supervision of the Army. The CM was accompanied by leaders of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and top police and government officials. Sonowal expressed dissatisfaction as a large portion of the border in the riverine area of Hatichar under the Mancachar sector is still open. He said that the state government was firm on its stand on the influx issue and will request the Centre to take immediate corrective steps. Sonowal travelled along the border, including Boraibari, Seshumara and Hatichar in Mancachar area and reviewed the ground situation. He is the first chief minister to go to the last point through the mighty Brahmaputra river to get a glimpse of the border with no boundary. He promised to erect fences to foil any cross-border movement. Sonowal also inspected the erosion-hit areas of Sishumara Border Outpost and vowed to take all measures for a foolproof fencing along the border.
