OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City police released a video showing a deadly shooting involving a police officer that occurred on a city bus on June 24.

Miguel Chavez-Angles was shot and killed by Officer Daniel Carli last month, after what authorities say was a kidnapping and an attempt to grab another police officer’s gun.

Chavez first encountered police at 12:33 p.m. on June 24 at the St. James Catholic Church, according to KFOR.

Church staff told authorities that Chavez was upset about his potential divorce and was reportedly banging his head on the floor.

Chavez agreed to go to St. Anthony’s Hospital for an evaluation after an officer spoke with him, KFOR reported.

He was taken to the hospital around 1:35 p.m. and discharged about two hours later.

Police say that after he was released, he got into a car with two women and told them to drive.

After travelling more than a mile, Chavez got out of the car and ran into an auto parts store and locked the door. Authorities said the store manager then asked Chavez to leave. This is when Chavez allegedly ran on to the city bus.

Officials say the bus surveillance video shows Chavez acting aggressively toward the officers.

The video released by police shows Chavez getting on the bus and telling the driver not to stop before jumping onto the luggage rack and grabbing the fire extinguisher.

The driver tells Chavez to get off the bus, but when he does not comply, he orders everyone else on board to leave.

Officer Heather Lane then rushes onto the bus with her gun drawn. Chavez then tries to grab Lane’s gun, and a struggle ensues.

Officer Daniel Carli then rushes onto the bus and shoots Chavez several times.

Land and Carli are currently on restricted duty while the shooting is investigated.
