The BBC is reporting that Phuge was beaten to death in the late hours of Thursday.
He and his son were attending a birthday celebration held at an open ground area.
The attackers allegedly descended upon Phuge, pummeling him with rocks and a sharp object.
His son reportedly witnessed the fatal beating, notes the Hindustan Times. Four people are being questioned about the incident, though its believed roughly 12 individuals were involved in the attack.
At this time, the bludgeoning is believed to have been motivated by financial and business matters.
