ORLANDO, FLORIDA — The repressed homosexual ISIS-inspired mass shooter who opened fired inside the Orlando nightclub said he carried out the attack because he wanted “Americans to stop bombing his country,” according to a witness who survived the attack.
Patience Carter, 20, said Omar Mateen made his claims during the same 911 call where he pledged allegiance to ISIS.
According to Carter, at one point when about two dozen hostages were in the bathrooms, Mateen asked if there were any black people in the room.
After one man said yes, the shooter said, “‘You know I don’t have a problem with black people,’” Carter said during a news conference. She said he also added, “‘This is about my country. You guys suffered enough.’”
It appears Mateen also made at least one other phone call during the hostage standoff, according to two U.S. law enforcement officials, calling an acquaintance he knew from Florida, the Washington Post reported.
At least two witnesses at Pulse said Mateen had been to the club several times before, and they had also seen him on Jack’d, a gay dating app, according to the Washington Post.
Mateen killed 49 people and injured more than 50 others. He was killed in a shootout with police after the hostage standoff.
