Instituti i Statistikave Shqiptare përdor një metodologji të gabuar për llogaritjen e eksporteve dhe importeve në Shqipëri, qe I nxjerr me te fryrra se realiteti shifrat e tregtisë së jashtme. Sipas qendrës shqiptare për konkurrueshmërine dhe tregtinë ndërkombëtare ky sistem llogaritje duhet ndryshuar. Sipas kësaj qendre, shifrat tregojnë se eksportet për vitin 2011 janë rritur me 22.6 dhe importet me 13.3%, ndërsa sipas INSTAT eksportet dhe importet janë rritur përkatësisht në vlerat 23.2 dhe 33.4%. INSTAT ka publikuar sot edhe raportin për tregtinë e jashtme të muajit prill ku për herë të parë gjatë këtij viti shihet një përmirësim për eksportet të cilat rezultojnë të jenë rritur me 8%, ndërkohë që importet vazhdojnë të bien me 12.5% po të krahasohen më të njëjtën periudhë të një viti më parë. Ekspertët e lidhin rënien e importeve edhe më një ulje të kërkesës të konsumatorit shqiptar, ndërkohë që eksportet janë të varura nga ecuria e ekonomisë të vendeve partnere tregtare si Italia dhe Greqia.
