One by one, French warplanes took off. In total 10 fighter jets disembarked simultaneously from bases in the United Arab Emirates and Jordan. Two days after the Islamic State group claimed responsibility for six attacks in Paris, France hit back, dropping 20 bombs on the group's stronghold of Raqqa.
