Bolivia Seeks Historic Evidence to Support Sea Access Claim

In view of widespread public interest over Bolivia’s claim to the Pacific Ocean, the government held a day of public access to files being evaluated to support its case against Chile. Some date back as far as 1899, detailing the diplomatic negotiations that have taken place since Bolivia lost the War of the Pacific. The government seeks historic evidence to prove the nation has a legal right to the sea. The International Court of Justice at The Hague ruled last month that it will continue to hear Bolivia’s case, but diplomatic relations with Chile have worsened.
