Colombia’s Attorney General has asked the Supreme Court to launch a criminal investigation into former president and current senator Alvaro Uribe for complicity in a paramilitary massacre in 1997 in El Aro in which 15 residents were killed and the village burned to the ground. When Uribe was governor of the Antioquia there were 116 such massacres, which left 700 dead and 200,000 displaced, and he is widely believed to be responsible for such atrocities.
