One Russian man stood up to defend his land and farm from a massive swarm of locusts, swatting the horde of hungry pests with his hat and hands in an attempt to slow the plague hitting his native Stavropol region. Locusts travel in innumerable swarms up to 25 miles per hour destroying fields, crops, and anything edible. Officials say that even using chemicals may only kill as few as 20 percent of the invading insects. Each locust eats its own body weight worth of food in a day and can reach over 3 inches in length with a wing span of nearly 5 inches.
