Three hundred thousand people gathered in San Salvador on Saturday for the beatification ceremony for slain archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero. Thousands of clergyman and several heads of state were also in attendance. Known as the bishop of the poor and the voice of the voiceless, Romero was assassinated 35 years ago by a right-wing death squad after offering mass. Now recognized as a martyr, after canonization he will be designated a saint. Jorge Gestoso reports from San Salvador. teleSUR
