Five former Middle Eastern inmates of the U.S. high security prison at Guantanamo Bay who were given asylum in Uruguay this past December lifted their three week protest encampment outside the U.S. embassy in Montevideo. They were demanding compensation for their 12 year ordeal at the notorious prison. As part of a deal to end the protest, the Uruguayan government will provide them with a US$560 monthly subsidy, rent-free housing for two years, and Spanish lessons. teleSUR
