Two Thai police officers killed in drunk driving accident

Two Thai police officers were killed when a drunk driver collided with their motorcycle in Nakhon Phanom province on Monday night.

The accident occurred on Liang Muang Road when a bronze Honda Civic struck Sgt Maj Prasert Linyoo, 44, and Sgt Maj Kajornsak Kamchana, 34, knocking them from their motorcycle. Attending officers found both men dead.

Twenty-nine year old Choladet Sriharat told police he was driving at the time of the accident. Choladet was breath-tested and found to be significantly over the blood alcohol limit and was arrested. He was later charged with drunk driving and reckless driving causing death.

According to the World Health Organization, 26,000 people die on Thailand's roads annually. More than 40% of these deaths are alcohol related.
