A series of bomb blasts in Iraq killed at least 21 people on Monday.

According to reports, the deadliest of the attacks took place in the north-eastern town of Buhriz, 60 km (40 miles) outside Baghdad.

A car bomb exploded close to a cafe popular among members of the government-backed Sunni Muslim Sahwa militia, killing 11 people and wounding 23.

Three more blasts in and around Baghdad killed an additional six people, Al Bawaba reported.

A roadside bomb south of the city killed one Iraqi soldier and wounded two others.

In Baghdad's Basmaya district another explosion at an outdoor market killed three people and wounded seven.

A car also exploded near a checkpoint in the north of Baghdad, killing three policemen and wounding 10.
According to reports, no one immediately claimed responsibility for Monday's attacks.
Civilians in cafes and public areas such as markets and mosques as well as security forces members however are frequent targets of insurgent groups operating in the country.

According to Reuters, Sunni insurgents linked to Al Qaeda have also frequently attacked Sahwa members this year.

At least 150 people have died in attacks across the country so far this month, according to the Associated Press.
According Al Bawaba, many of the attacks have been orchestrated to undermine confidence in the Shi'ite-led central government and punish the Sunni Sahwa who are considered traitors due to their cooperation with US forces during the war.

Earlier this month a suicide bomber in Diyala province blew himself up at the funeral procession of a prominent tribal sheikh linked to the Sahwa, killing 10 people, Reuters reported.
