In a country where more then 23,000 people have been reported as forcibly disappeared, families find no government support in locating their loved ones. It is now common to see mothers in the streets with photos of their missing children, but their demands for answers fall on chronically deaf ears. The authorities don’t search for them, say the mothers. There is only a simulation. Although Mexican lawmakers did pass a bill that gives official recognition and calls for adequate penalties for the crime of forced disappearance, state authorities are unwilling to take action against those responsible, as seen in the Ayotzinapa case.
