Newly released dash cam video showing the arrest of an Arizona State University English professor for jaywalking has some questioning whether this police officer used excessive force.
English professor Ersula Ore was walking in the middle of the street on ASU's Tempe, campus when a campus police officer stopped her.
Ore took issue with the officer's treatment of her claiming she was being singled out, possibly due to her race.
When she refused to show her ID, things quickly escalated.
Officer Stewart Ferrin threw Ore to the ground. The dress she was wearing rose, exposing her to onlookers.
Ore faces charges of resisting arrest, failing to provide ID, and obstructing a public thoroughfare. She's also been charged with assaulting police for kicking an officer while he picked her up from the ground. Ore is claiming self defense.
University officials are standing with Officer Ferrin. In a statement released Sunday, officials said, "they have found that the officer involved did not violate protocol and no evidence was found of racial motivation by the ASU Police Department."
