University of Denver student Eva Hakansson just shattered the world record for motorcycle speed, using a vehicle she built in her garage.

The Sweden-born woman and her husband built “KillaJoule” on a tight budget, over a span of five years.

The sleek 19-foot motorcycle runs on a 500 horsepower motor, which is higher than most sports cars. It also runs a battery and requires two parachutes to slow down from its record speed of 242 mph.

Hakansson says she hopes to one day upgrade it so that it travels 400 mph.
