Baltimore officials have declared a week long, city-wide curfew following riots and looting that occurred after the funeral for Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old man who died while in police custody on April 19th. The National Guard has been called in to enforce the curfew, and a state of emergency has been declared in the city of Baltimore.

15 police officers were injured during the riots, with six of them reportedly in serious condition. 27 suspects were arrested during the looting and destruction that took place in the streets around North and Pennsylvania Avenues. According to CBS Baltimore, police in riot gear used mace and tear gas to disperse crowds of violent rioters who answered by destroying property, throwing rocks and setting businesses and cars on fire to express their outrage.

Along with the curfew in place between 10 pm to 5 am, several streets have been closed to vehicle traffic, and MTA metro trains will bypass a handful of stations in the area around where the riots took place. Authorities believe the riots were mostly incited by young citizens of Baltimore, including high school students who organized a demonstration march that turned violent.
