A gunman shot and killed a soldier at Canada's main war memorial Wednesday morning, the second deadly assault on uniformed members of Canada's armed forces in just three days, according to a Reuters report.

CNN, citing multiple unanonymous US officials, identified the shooter as Canadian national Michael Zehaf-Bibeau.

At 9:52 A.M. Zehaf-Bibeau allegedly killed one of two soldiers on guard at the Canadian National War Memorial.

The suspect was carrying what a witness described as a double-barreled shotgun and shot one of the soldiers multiple times.

As the role is ceremonial, the rifles the guards carry are typically unloaded.

Zehaf-Bibeau next made his way into the main building on Parliament Hill, before he was shot and killed.

He came within a very short distance of a room where Prime Minister Stephen Harper was speaking.

The incident has come as a shock to Canada's sleepy capital, much of which remains in lockdown as of press time.
