An Aero Commander 500 cargo jet crashed into a house in Chicago on Tuesday early morning, killing its pilot.

The plane took off from Midway International Airport and, according to an NBC Chicago report, was initially heading to Chicago Executive Airport, but the pilot changed his plans and instead made his way to Ohio State University Airport.

After reporting engine problems, the pilot tried to return to Midway airport, but crashed into a house located about a quarter-mile from the end of Runway 31C, Fox 17 reported.

The plane went through the roof, the living and dining rooms and into the basement.

The couple living in the house escaped injury, but the as-yet-unidentified pilot was confirmed dead at the scene of the crash.
