A dramatic car chase through East Los Angeles ended with the suspect being shot on live television.

It happened Monday, during the busy LA rush hour. Police spotted Aaron Lorta, 29, around 5:15 p.m. speeding 60 mph through busy intersections.

With police in hot pursuit, Lorta crashed the car and stole another by carjacking a woman at gun point.

Lorta zipped in and out of traffic, at times travelling on the wrong side of the road to evade police.

With TV news and LAPD helicopters tracking his every move, police moved in on Lorta after his car became stuck in heavy traffic.

Lorta fled on foot, and attempted to carjack two more vehicles before he was shot by police.

The suspect, who is recovering in an area hospital, has a checkered criminal past with dozens of charges including spousal abuse, taking a car without permission, and resisting arrest.
