Colombian Attorney General Eduardo Montealegre announced that 20 generals were being investigated in connection with the killing of civilians. The bodies of the victims were then presented as being those of guerrilla fighters, in what has been known in Colombia as the "false positives" scandal. Under former president Alvaro Uribe, members of the military were given monetary bonuses for the number of guerrilla fighters killed, which prompted the murder of civilians then passed off as rebel deaths. Montealegre said the results of his department's investigation would be be made known before the end of the year. teleSUR
