France has blocked a proposed Belgian €2 coin that was to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo. The French said that it would be "a symbol that is negative for a fraction of the European population". Belgium has shelved the coin but has found a compromise of its own.
Elsewhere, French women are up in arms about a women's trade show due to take place in Paris this weekend. Sexist and retrograde is what they call it. The show's organisers say this is not true.
