Dr. Amy Downs was born and raised in Booneville, Mississippi. As the daughter of a dentist, Dr. Downs spent much of her childhood working in her family’s dental practice. It was there that she learned that dentistry is so much more than just repairing teeth, but is about establishing personal relationships with each patient so that she can create the beautiful smile they deserve.
Deciding that she wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a dentist as well, Dr. Downs continued her education at The University of Mississippi, in Oxford, Mississippi. There she graduated Summa cum laude with a B.A. in Biology and a minor in Chemistry, was named a Taylor Medal recipient and inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She also developed a deep love of SEC football during her time at Ole Miss.
Dr. Downs then attended dental school at The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. During her time there she became involved with several community outreach organizations providing care for the underserved including: Mission of Mercy, Give Kids a Smile, We Serve, and Project Saving Smiles. She also created a rural dental education program in which she traveled to rural elementary schools to provide dental education and care to those in need.
After receiving her dental degree Dr. Downs completed a General Practice Residency at The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston in associate with Memorial Hermann Hospital. There she was educated in the most cutting edge techniques and technologies available in dentistry as well as advanced education in oral surgery, emergency medicine, cosmetic and implant dentistry.
Today, as associate dentist at Cosmetic Dentists of Houston, Dr. Downs’ focus is on providing the highest level of comprehensive care to each of her patients in a gentle, efficient and professional manner. Developing relationships with each patient based on open communication, respect and trust allows Dr. Downs to tailor appointments to each patient’s individual wants and needs.
In her spare time Dr. Downs enjoys reading historical fiction, watching movies, trying new wines and restaurants, and traveling. She is a member of the Houston Ballet bar, Memorial Church of Christ, and The Greater Houston Dental Society. She also serves as mentor to her younger brother, Alex, who is in his first year of dental school at The University of Mississippi School of Dentistry.
