GOOGLE LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN TO FIGHT THE SPREAD OF EBOLA
Google joined the fight against Ebola Monday November 10, pledging to raise funds to fight the spread of the virus in West Africa. The Mountain View firm will be donating 2 dollars for every dollar donated via its site, until 7 million 500 000 dollars has been raised in total. Google has kicked off the campaign with an immediate 10 million dollar donation to various humanitarian non-profits providing care in communities affected by the epidemic.
And Google's not the only web giant seeking to help organizations on the front lines of the humanitarian crisis in West Africa. Last week Facebook introduced a donation notification to the top of every user`s news feed. The move comes just days after the social network`s founder Mark Zuckerberg announced he was donating 25 million dollars to the Centers for Disease Control Foundation which has been extremely active in West Africa since the outbreak of the epidemic.
And at the end of October, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, said he would be giving the colossal sum of 100 million dollars to help combat the Ebola virus outbreak. He is urging web users to join him in showing solidarity with the countries affected by the epidemic and help the organizations on the ground, by donating via the purpose built platform tackleebola.com.
