BLOGGERS LAUNCH CAMPAING AGAINST EBOLA IN SENEGAL
A group of Senegalese bloggers launched the "Sen Stop Ebola" awareness drive on social media a week ago. A spontaneous campaign started after the authorities confirmed Senegal`s first case of Ebola.
Ran on several different platforms, the aim of the campaign is to share information about the virus, along with prevention tips and hygiene procedures to follow. This diagram for example explains the correct way to wash hands so as to avoid spreading the virus.
Speaking to the site Echos2rue, cyber-activist Charles Vieira-Sanches says it’s also a way of countering the type of false information that could well cause people to panic.
The "Stop Ebola Sénégal" Facebook page now has over 6,500 likes. And many, just like the Mayor of Dakar Khalifa Sall and singer Youssou N’dour, have added this badge to their profile picture to promote the campaign via social networks.
And in a bid to reach the widest audience possible, the campaign organizers have even developed a freely downloadable smartphone app, which offers all sorts of information, and is also available in Wolof.
USA: OUTRAGE OVER ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE PRANK
A group of High School students from Bay Village in Ohio, tricked another teen, who has autism, into believing he was taking part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and was going to have a bucket of icy water poured over his head.
