I Am A Survivor
by Barbara Lynn Terry
I am a survivor of such abuse,
Of being abandoned, beaten, and raped.
I was a child of twelve,
Whose innocence was stolen,
By those who would delve,
Into devilish plans,
To rid themselves of me,
Because of this girl I just need to be.
I am a survivor.
I have been thrown to the wolves,
But my soul has remained unharmed.
I am a survivor.
I have been beaten until I bled,
By those who knew I couldn't fight back.
I am a survivor.
I have been raped in dark places every day,
Where the staff couldn't see,
Or just didn't care.
I am a survivor.
They tried to erase my female soul,
And I came out, my soul unscathed,
Knowing that one day I would be complete and whole.
I am a survivor.
I am a victim of the system,
That tried to destroy my dreams,
But I refused to let them see,
The terror deep inside,
I felt as this abuse I could not abide.
I am a survivor.
When I walk down the street,
I hear their laughter and whispers,
But I just continue on,
As though they were never there.
I am a survivor.
Am I now free of the demons that hide,
In the souls of the so-called righteous,
Who haven't a clue,
Of what is human kinds due.
Am I free now to be,
Forever and ever,
This girl in me.
I AM
A SURVIVOR!
