Dream
Am I not to know
What comes back
When I yearn, so
Out of my reach
And out of my touch
Dreaming, by proxy, I
Await the fate
Of checkmate
Or the mousetrap,
Because I eat
And I wait
For the meal
That never comes
And when it comes
Back to me, I
Can’t portray the
Character assigned
Because I am still
Somewhat a rat
And I might mouth
‘I love you’ or
I might dissolve
In your solvent of
Tears
